About

The Hardinge Arms is a historic building in the affluent South Derbyshire village of Kings Newton, in the Parish of Melbourne. Dating back to the 16Th Century, The Hardinge Arms is the home of the famous Newton Wonder apple. A rosy-red cooking apple, which was also sweet enough to eat after being stored for a few months. The Newton Wonder was traditionally used in mincemeat and stuffing for turkey at Christmas. William Taylor, the then landlord, cultivated it at the rear of the pub (once an orchard) from a seedling and when in season it can still be sampled on the menu.

New owners , Mark and Alison Constable are embarking on an exciting venture and following their dream of running an excellent restaurant. They are passionate about providing a warm welcome and excellent service in relaxed, comfortable surroundings. The food is all fresh, seasonal and locally sourced with a changing menu depending on the best produce available on the day. It is all prepared on the premises by Head chef Craig Tyrrell and his team. Following college and four years training with Marriott, Craig has previously taken a restaurant to Rosette standard. He has high standards in the food he serves and in the level of hygiene in the kitchen from which it is served. To accompany this wonderful food there is an extensive new wine list .

The six beautiful ensuite bedrooms and delicious breakfast menu, make The Hardinge a wonderful place to stay, being just a 5 minute drive from the M1 and M42 and convenient for Donington Park Race Circuit. East Midlands Airport and some of Derbyshires most beautiful historic houses and wonderful countryside means there is something for everyone, whether it's walkers, cyclists, families or race goers. Everyone is welcome.

With a wonderful refurbishment completed to a high standard, including Mark's stunning rebuilding of the oak bar and samples of his superb photography displayed, there really is a new feel to The Hardinge Arms. So whether it's a relaxing drink, wonderful meal or comfortable bed you are seeking, The Hardinge Arms is the place.
